In situ diagnostics of intercalation-batteries via Raman spectroscopy

The overall goal of this project is to contribute to the development of improved cathode materials for Li ion batteries.
Our strategy is based on the use of in situ Raman spectroscopy to obtain a detailed understanding of the mode of operation and fatigue of battery materials.
Main emphasis will be put on oxide materials of type LixMOy (M = Co, Ni, Mn) as well as their binary combinations and the technically important ternary system.
Besides, other materials such as V2O5 and silicon carbonitrides will be studied.
The potential of Raman spectroscopy to gain structural insight into the electrode material, the electrolyte and the interfase between electrode material and electrolyte (Solid Electrolyte Interface, SEI) will be explored.
